Agnieszka works at the intersection of European business, policy and innovation heading the EIC Business Acceleration Services team of the European Commission. EIC is a 10 bn € initiative supporting growth of deep-tech European startups & scaleups. Funding is accompanied with world-class coaching and acceleration services to engage the whole ecosystem. Agnieszka brings along over 15 years of experience in impact analysis, deep tech innovation funding and investing as well as acceleration services from European Institutions and private sector. She uses this experience to build evidence based acceleration services and grow next unicorns in Europe.

Chris is a Climate Tech investor at GB. Since 2019, he has worked in Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) at Mitsubishi Corporation, leading investments, global deployment of DAC projects, and co-founding NextGen a CDR buyers' club. He has shaped Japan’s DAC strategy with METI, advised global initiatives like Carbon Unbound, and spoken at COP, Climate Week NY, and more. Previously in the mineral resources sector, living in Mozambique. With global experience across Japan, Europe, Africa, and the US, he brings deep expertise in CDR and a strong commitment to climate innovation. Father of two daughters, a hip hop and Haribo enthusiast.

Alan Cowen is the founder of Hume AI and a former Google researcher with a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. His research on empathic AI, spanning 40+ papers, has helped shape how we measure and simulate human emotion. Under Cowen’s leadership, Hume AI has pioneered AI models where the same intelligence generates language and voice — an essential step toward AI that understands emotions and speaks like a human. Cowen also founded The Hume Initiative, a non-profit that develops ethical guidelines for AI and advocates for its optimization for our well-being.

「次世代の優れた工学部は、協働によって社会的意義を高める」という理念のもと、数多くの学際的な学部横断型研究センターを設立。これらのセンターは、ウェアラブルセンサー、持続可能な電力・エネルギー、マイクロバイオーム・イノベーション、コンテクスチュアル・ロボティクス、材料発見と設計、グローバル・アントレプレナーシップといった分野を対象とする。これらの研究拠点からは、多くのスタートアップ企業が生まれ、健康・エネルギー・持続可能性など社会的課題の解決に取り組む。
以前は、カリフォルニア大学バークレー校の教員として30年間勤め、メカニカルシステムのFANUC講座教授を務めるとともに、バークレー・センサー＆アクチュエータセンターの共同ディレクターを務めた。1983年以来、博士課程学生40名以上、修士課程学生75名以上を指導・卒業させている。1997年から1999年にかけて、米国国防高等研究計画局（DARPA）のMEMS（微小電気機械システム）プログラムのプログラムマネージャーを歴任。MEMS分野で36件以上の特許を共同発明者として保有しており、400本以上の学術論文を共同執筆した。
コロンビア大学で機械工学を専攻し、学士号（1976年）、修士号（1977年、1980年）、博士号（1981年）を取得。学界に入る以前には、ゼロックス・パロアルト研究所、シンガーミシン社R&Dセンター、ゼネラルモーターズ研究所で研究職を経験。

Albert P. Pisano is Dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering at University of California San Diego and Special Adviser to the Chancellor for Campus Strategic Initiatives. At UC San Diego, he has held the Walter J. Zable Chair since he joined the campus as engineering dean in 2013. Under the vision that the great engineering schools of the next decade will collaborate their way to relevance, Pisano has initiated numerous cross-departmental interdisciplinary centers of excellence in the areas such as wearable sensors, sustainable power and energy, microbiome innovation, contextual robotics, materials discovery and design, and global entrepreneurs. These centers of excellence have created a multitude of startup companies to solve health, energy, sustainability and other societal problems. Previously, Pisano served on the UC Berkeley faculty for 30 years where he held the FANUC Chair of Mechanical Systems and was co-director of the Berkeley Sensor & Actuator Center. Since 1983, Pisano has graduated over 40 Ph.D. and 75 M.S. students. From 1997 to 1999, Pisano was a program manager for the Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) Program at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). He is a co-inventor listed on more than 36 patents in MEMS and has co-authored more than 400 archival publications. Pisano earned his undergraduate (’76) and graduate degrees (’77, ’80, ’81) in mechanical engineering at Columbia University. Prior to joining the academia, he held research positions with Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, Singer Sewing Machines Corporate R&D Center and General Motors Research Labs. Pisano is an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Inventors, and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He received the highest honor of the IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu: the IEEE-HKN Asad M. Madni Outstanding Technical Achievement and Excellence Award in 2022.

Amanda is a Partner at Kurma Partners, a venture capital firm based in Paris and Munich. Focussed on biotech, Amanda invests in early-stage companies as well as company creation. Prior to Kurma, Amanda was investor with the Roche Venture Fund and Seventure Partners. Earlier as Roche Global Business Development Director and Strategy Director Emerging Technologies, she focussed on external innovation (biotech and academia). Amanda began her career in academic research, as a postdoctoral fellow in Switzerland (ISREC, Lausanne; IRB, Bellinzona), a PhD in Immunology and BMedSci (honours) from University of Sydney. Amanda also holds an MBA from IE Business School.

Over the years, Andrew has played pivotal executive leadership roles in developing strategy, fundraising and corporate execution. Ayano joined CIC with a passion for building Japan’s biotech and healthcare startup ecosystem. She holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Tokyo and previously worked at MEXT, contributing to life science policy and designing AMED. In 2017, she joined MIT’s System Design and Management program, researching startup ecosystems in Japan and the U.S. Upon returning, she worked on science and innovation policy at the Cabinet Office and nuclear fusion R&D at MEXT. Since 2021, she has been leading programs at CIC Japan that support biotech and medtech startups and their expansion into the U.S. market.

James currently serves as Senior Portfolio Manager at Foresight Group, where he leads the investment and portfolio management of life sciences and medical technologies companies across stages of product development to commercial growth with support from Foresight’s venture capital funds alongside other UK and international investors. Jean is the President and Managing Partner at Jolt Capital. He has driven Jolt’s vision and led its development since 2012. The impetus behind the founding of Jolt was Jean’s realization that there is a significant pool of technology companies which passed their technology risks stage, hardware or software, and are starting to scale worldwide.
Prior to founding Jolt Capital, Jean was Managing Partner at Sofinnova Partners, running the IT practice with a focus on telecom and wireless markets. Preceding his career as an investor, Jean was the CEO and founder of 4 companies with successful exits, including SLP InfoWare, which he sold to Gemplus (now Gemalto, XPAR:GTO) in 2000 for $60m and then became VP Telecom Solutions & Applications for the larger group.
Jean graduated from Telecom ParisTech and has a post-graduate degree in Artificial Intelligence. He is a regular lecturer at Telecom ParisTech and Mines ParisTech, a mentor at HEC CDL, and a speaker at multiple international conferences on Private Equity, AI and Technology.
Jean is also the Chairman of the Baroque Orchestra La Chapelle Harmonique (led by the internationally acclaimed conductor Valentin Tournet), an independant board member of Tech Premium (a French-led Caisse des Dépôts SICAV promoting technology IPOs), a former Chairman of the International Venture Club, and a former Chairman of the e-learning trade union CHANED.

Johannes Fruehauf MD, PhD is a physician-scientist and life-science entrepreneur. He is the Founder and CEO of BioLabs and Founder and Executive Chairman of LabCentral, the leading international network for co-working laboratory spaces for life-science startup companies. Together, BioLabs/LabCentral have helped launch over 850 primarily venture funded startup companies in the life sciences in 17 different cities with a presence in the United States, Germany, France and Japan. The concept of these facilities is built around openness, transparency and shared resources and has changed the way biotech companies are built around the world. Companies launched at BioLabs/LabCentral have raised over $30bn while in residence since 2010. Luca is a Partner at Atomico based in London and joined the firm in 2018. He focuses on Atomico’s growth stage investing, with a particular focus on the b2b software space. He sits on the boards of, or is involved with, Atomico investments into Aiven, Attentive, CADDi, ChannelEngine, Factorial, Bird (formerly MessageBird), Raycast, Scoutbee and TestGorilla, amongst others. Masayo Takahashi is an ophthalmologist who completed her doctoral program (Visual Pathology) at the Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University. She served as the leader of the Laboratory for Retinal Regeneration, RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research from 2006 to 2022, conducting groundbreaking clinical research using the world’s first induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells in 2014. Mike is a serial entrepreneur who has started multiple companies, including Kid Galaxy, Big Idea Group (partially owned by WPP), and RDM.

Michael J. Biercuk is the CEO and Founder of Q-CTRL and formerly a Professor of Quantum Physics and Quantum Technology at the University of Sydney. Michael earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and his Masters and PhD from Harvard University. He held a research fellowship in the Ion Storage Group at NIST Boulder, and has served as a full-time technical consultant to DARPA, helping to steer government investments in quantum information and advanced computer architectures. Nagahiro Minato is the president of Kyoto University. Born in 1951, he holds the degree of doctor of medicine. After graduating from Kyoto University’s Faculty of Medicine in 1975, he worked as an associate researcher at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 1977–80. In 1992, he was appointed as professor of immunology and cell biology at Kyoto University’s Faculty of Medicine, where he served as dean from 2010–14. After serving as Kyoto University’s provost and executive vice-president, Dr. Minato was appointed as the 27th president in October, 2020.

学生時代に農業廃棄物を用いた実験を開始し、廃棄されたオレンジの皮を原料とする生分解性の高吸水性ポリマー（SAP）を開発。この革新技術は、土壌の保湿性を高め、肥料使用量を削減し、収量を向上させるだけでなく、石油由来の材料に依存しない点が特徴である。
創業以来、インド、日本、米国、フランスの4つの主要地域で事業を展開し、これまでに400トン以上の製品を販売し、4,000トン以上のバイオ廃棄物をアップサイクルした。2025年4月にはシリーズBラウンドで660万ドルの資金調達を実施。現在、同社のバイオベースSAPは農業だけでなく、パーソナルケア、医療製品、コールドチェーンソリューションなどにも使用されている。

Narayan Gurjar is the Founder and CEO of EF Polymer, a deep-tech startup pioneering circular, nature-based solutions for agriculture and beyond. Raised in a farming village in Rajasthan, India, Narayan experienced firsthand the challenges of water scarcity and soil degradation—issues that threaten millions of smallholder farmers worldwide. This early exposure shaped his mission to create sustainable technologies that make agriculture more resilient and resource-efficient. While still a student, he began experimenting with agricultural waste and developed a biodegradable super absorbent polymer (SAP) made from discarded orange peels. The innovation helps farmers retain soil moisture, cut fertilizer use, and boost yields—without relying on petroleum-based materials. Since founding EF Polymer in 2020, Narayan has led its growth across four key regions—India, Japan, the US, and France. The company has sold over 400 tons of product, upcycled more than 4,000 tons of bio-waste, and raised $6.6 million in Series B funding in April 2025. Its bio-based SAP is now used not only in farming, but also in personal care, medical products, and cold chain solutions.

He’s the Founding Director of Cross Labs, an innovative AI research institute in Kyoto dedicated to diverse intelligences and compassionate technology. He’s the President of the International Society for Artificial Life (ISAL) and Board Director at Cross Compass. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Tokyo, is an alumnus member of Princeton’s Institute for Advanced Study, and serves as external faculty at various universities in Japan. At Primex Technologies (acquired by General Dynamics) Mr. Marcotullio led R&D and planning for a $500 million defense and aerospace firm with a $20 annual R&D million annual budget. 2021年には、社会医療法人警和会のもとで大阪警察病院の院長に就任。iPS細胞を用いた心筋再生療法のFirst in Human（世界初の臨床試験）を成功裏に実施。この研究成果を基に、iPS細胞由来の心臓パッチの開発および商業化を目的として、2017年3月にCUORiPS Inc.を設立（最高技術責任者：CTO）。

After serving as the Professor and Chair of Cardiovascular and Respiratory Surgery (Department of Surgery) at the Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University, he currently holds his position. 豊富な経験を持つ事業運営者・投資家である。国際的プレシードファンドのHustle Fundのゼネラルパートナーを務めている。Hustle Fundに参画する以前は、NerdWalletの事業運営およびコーポレートデベロップメント担当バイスプレジデント（10番目の社員）として、年商を100万ドルから1億5000万ドル以上へと成長させた。NerdWallet以前は、成長段階のベンチャーキャピタルファンドであるInstitutional Venture PartnersおよびグローバルマクロヘッジファンドのBridgewater Associatesで投資家として活動していた。スタンフォード大学で生体機械工学と経済学の学士号を取得し、ハーバードビジネススクールでは経営学修士号（MBA）を取得している。

Shiyan is an experienced operator and investor. She is a General Partner at Hustle Fund, a global pre-seed fund. Prior to Hustle Fund, she was VP of Business Operations & Corp Dev at NerdWallet (employee #10), growing annual revenue from $1M to $150M+. Prior to NerdWallet, she was an investor at Institutional Venture Partners, a growth stage venture capital fund and Bridgewater Associates, a global macro hedge fund. Shiyan holds a BS in Biomechanical Engineering and a BA in Economics from Stanford University as well as a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.

bp Ventures is bp’s corporate venturing unit. It plays a key role in driving value bp’s disciplined investment in the energy transition, investing more than $100m annually in innovative technologies and visionary founders which could help to revolutionise the energy sector. Bp Ventures’ investment scope covers electric mobility, energy storage, trading, data centres, geothermal, rainbow H2 (green, gold etc.), biofuels (incl biogas), solar and wind, as well as the decarbonisation of Oil & Gas Value Chains. Our initial investment in promising startups are usually at Series A or Series B stage.

Sophia is Managing Director Asia & Middle East at bp ventures, leading the sourcing of venturing deals in India, Australia, Japan, Singapore, China, elsewhere in AsPac, and the Middle East. She explores new opportunities that support bp’s scaling of advanced mobility, bio-energy and other new energy vectors, power systems and other tech-led business models that help to accelerate the energy transition. Sophia joined bp ventures in 2020 from bp’s advanced mobility team, having designed the company’s global e-mobility strategy, helping the business to become a leading provider of integrated mobility solutions in the UK, Europe, China, the US, India and beyond. Sophia holds an MBA from Warwick Business School, a BSc in Physiology from McGill University, and an LLB(Hons) from University College London. She is also a qualified lawyer and arbitrator. Before joining bp, she worked as an innovator and business builder in the global consumer goods and services industry, and ran her own award-winning startup. Sophia was recognised as a Global Corporate Venturing Emerging Leader. She holds non-executive director roles at one Indian startup, Magenta Mobility, and is shareholder rep for several others including India-based Zingbus, Australia-based 5B and Hysata, China-based Enjoyelec and Israel-based StoreDot. Takeshi S. Komatani, LL.M., Ph.D., is a litigation-certified Japanese patent attorney and IP strategist with expertise in pharmaceutical sciences and law. He serves as a principal at Takashima International Patent Office, advising clients worldwide. He holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences (University of Tokyo), an LL.M. in Global Legal Practice (Keio University), and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Law. He is Visiting Professor at Kobe and Doshisha Universities, and Vice Chair of AIPPI’s TRIPS Committee. He supports startups through IPAS, VC-IPAS, and MEDISO, and has received multiple international awards including IFAPP and IPBASE for his contributions to IP and pharmaceutical innovation.

Following her graduation from Kyoto University, Ms. Takuko Sawada joined Shionogi & Co., Ltd. in 1977. Since then, she has served for over 30 years, leading a number of pharmaceutical development projects and corporate strategy planning. Ms. Sawada successively held various posts in the company including the senior vice president of Global Pharmaceutical Development Division, the senior vice president of Corporate Strategy Division and Corporate Planning Department, and board director. She has served in her current position, Vice-Chair, since 2025.
As the vice-chair of Kansai Economic Federation, she promotes the startup ecosystem in the Kansai region.

Tomoya is the Founder and Managing Partner of D3 LLC, an investment firm dedicated to advancing global healthcare innovation from Japan. Initially established as a consulting firm, D3 LLC transitioned into venture capital, launching its first fund in 2020 and currently managing its second fund. Before founding D3 LLC, Tomoya was a consultant at McKinsey & Company, where he specialized in growth strategy, new business development, and innovation. Subsequently, he led venture investments at FIL Capital Management (HK) Ltd., Fidelity’s global investment arm. In addition to his leadership role at D3 LLC, Tomoya actively contributes to academia and professional development through lectures at various universities. He also serves as Principal of the Japan Business Model Association and as Subprogram Director for Goal 9 of Japan's Moonshot R&D Program, one of the country's largest and most visionary national research initiatives coordinated by the Cabinet Office. CICのイノベーションエコシステムサービスを統括し、2024年に初代最高イノベーション責任者（Chief Innovation Officer）に就任。イノベーションおよびテクノロジー分野で20年以上の経験を持ち、これまでに各国政府や組織に助言し、世界中のスタートアップエコシステムの形成に寄与してきた。世界銀行では、スタートアップおよびスマートシティ政策プログラムを主導し、グローバルなイノベーションを推進。日本の内閣府にスタートアップ政策に関する助言を行い、東京都のスタートアップ・フェローも務める。千葉工業大学では研究科学者として活動し、イノベーションおよび競争力に関する主要な研究を執筆している。

Victor Mulas leads CIC’s Innovation Ecosystem Services and became its first Chief Innovation Officer in 2024. With 20+ years in innovation and technology, he advised governments and organizations, shaping startup ecosystems worldwide. At the World Bank, he led startup and smart city policy programs, driving global innovation. He advises Japan’s Cabinet Office on startup policies and is a Startup Fellow for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. A research scientist at Chiba Institute of Technology, he has authored leading research on innovation and competitiveness.

新興のファンドマネージャーの育成とスケールアップを目的とした投資会社兼アカデミーを率いる。これまでに300名以上のファンドマネージャーを支援し、90件を超える投資を実行。創業者件投資家やテクノロジーイノベーターによる強固なコミュニティを築いている。
著書に『How to Raise a Venture Capital Fund』および『How to Set Up a Venture Capital Fund』があり、業界内で広く参照されている。これまでにHall Capital Partners（のちにPathstoneに買収）およびSAPにて、プライベート・エクイティ、ベンチャーキャピタル、ファンド投資に従事。SAPではエバーグリーン・ファンドの運営にも関与した。
また、LP（リミテッド・パートナー）間の透明性向上を目的とした「#OpenLP」ムーブメントの共同創設者であり、スタンフォード大学経営大学院（Stanford GSB）での講義経験も持つ。オックスフォード大学およびハーバード大学卒。
■ Biography
Winter Mead is the Founder and Managing Member of Coolwater Capital, an investment firm and academy focused on training and scaling emerging managers. Coolwater has supported over 300 emerging managers and made 90+ investments, building a strong community of founder-investors and technology innovators. Winter is the author of How To Raise A Venture Capital Fund and How To Set Up A Venture Capital Fund. His prior experience includes roles in private equity, venture capital, and fund investments at Hall Capital Partners (acquired by Pathstone) and SAP, where he helped run an evergreen fund. He also co-founded the #OpenLP movement to promote transparency among LPs and has taught at Stanford GSB. Winter holds degrees from Oxford and Harvard.

Joined Nomura Securities in 2002. After 10 years of overseas assignments, joined Goldman Sachs in 2014 and has led the equity sales division since 2017. Oversaw institutional investor coverage and major secondary transactions. Contributed to regulatory reform as a member of a Japan Securities Dealers Association (JSDA) working group. Appointed Executive Officer at HiJoJo Partners in 2024, where he leads the strategic alliance with Nasdaq Private Market and develops new businesses connecting global startups with investors.

After graduating from the Faculty of Agriculture (BS), Kyoto University, Yosuke Tsuji obtained his MBA at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He worked at Sony Corporation and Monex, Inc. before establishing Money Forward, Inc. in 2012. Currently serves as the Vice Chairperson of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives (Keizai Doyukai) and Chairperson of its Startup Promotion General Committee, Executive Committee member of the Silicon Valley Japan Platform (SVJP), and Executive Officer of the Japan Association of New Economy.

Youssef has propelled LG Sonic from a nascent startup to an industry benchmark, earning worldwide recognition for environmental excellence. リスクキャピタルの供給を通じた日本の産業競争力の強化、およびPE・VC投資のエコシステムへの醸成に貢献することを志し、2020年7月、産業革新投資機構に入社。それ以前は、ニッセイアセットマネジメントにて、プライベート・エクイティ投資の共同ヘッドとして、欧州中小型バイアウト、GPマイノリティー出資、セカンダリー、国内VC投資を主に担当。また、野村アセットマネジメント及び野村プライベート・エクイティ・キャピタル（NPEC）に9年間在籍し、投資委員会メンバーとして、NPECが運用するファンド及び口座のグローバル投資案件の評価・意思決定に携わると共に、アジアのチームヘッドとしてアジア地域のプライベート・エクイティ・ファンドの発掘・分析・関係構築を担当した。

■ Biography
Ms. Hata joined JIC in July 2020 in order to build and support Japan’ private equity / venture capital ecosystem as well as to provide the risk capital with the investment funds which bring Japan’s industry to the next stage. Prior to joining JIC, as a co-head of private equity, Ms. Hata worked for Nissay Asset Management where she was mainly responsible for European small-mid buyout, GP stake investments, secondary and Japan’s VC funds. She also worked for Nomura Asset Management (or Nomura Private Equity Capital) and managed fund of funds focused on Asia market as a member of Investment Committee.
Ms. Hata is a Chartered Member of the Security Analysts Association of Japan., and received a B.A. in Environmental Information from Keio University and an M.B.A. from Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales-HEC in Paris.

Yukiko Kato has 22 years of experience as a venture capitalist. Since 2016, she leads the management of several CVC funds co-established with large Japanese enterprises. Prior to joining SBI, she worked at the Investment Banking Division of ING Securities Limited. In 2015, she ranked first on the Forbes Japan Midas List.

OECD(経済協力開発機構)東京センター元所⻑。内閣府「新しい資本主義実現会議」を含む、経産省、外務省など多くの審議会で委員を歴任。2016年に上梓した『武器としての人口減社会』はアマゾン経済書部門にてベストセラーとなる。OECD以前は、主にニューヨークおよびロンドンのゴールドマン・サックス証券会社のマネージング・ディレクターとして約20年間勤務。カンボジアの国連平和維持軍や、東カリブ海地域の経済開発援助にも携わった。上智大学、スタンフォード大学院、ハーバード大学院卒。

Yumiko is a Co-Founder and General Partner at MPower Partners, a Japan-based global venture capital fund. She brings over 20 years of experience in international finance, having worked at Goldman Sachs in New York, London, and Tokyo. In addition to her private-sector experience, Yumiko has held roles at international organizations including the OECD and the United Nations, contributing to global economic and policy initiatives. She earned her undergraduate degree from Sophia University in Tokyo and holds advanced degrees from both Stanford University and Harvard University in the United States. Yumiko currently serves on several high-level government committees, including the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Panel, where she contributes to shaping Japan’s economic policy.

Zain also advises BioCommunity Kansai, contributes to the bioeconomy ecosystem, and hosts Project 0: Strand Theory, a podcast spotlighting APAC biotech founders. Previously at Robert Walters Japan, he placed key talent across healthcare. Zain holds a Master’s in Molecular Medicine and is JLPT N2 certified.
